All those who have visited French Guiana will remember with great affection Paulin Clet, the modest artisan-jeweler at Sinnamary. I have vivid memories of Aerospatiale’s PR Shirley Compard taking us there in the early 80′s. I returned perhaps a dozen times. From his modest workshop, how many VIPs, “missionaries” and journalists have brought back a real nugget or two to wives, children? Inexpensive natural treasures offered by a talkative amiable man. I only learnt the news today. Last 24 october he was found dead, limbs tied, apparently savagely killed. He was aged 89. (Photo France-Guyane)
